hilandercs at The Karate Kid, now and thenOk, so I've recently caused a bit of a stir by saying that I strongly dislike the new Karate Kid movie. I should take a moment and elaborate on my various reasons behind said opinion, since it seems to be quite controversial.
In preparation for this entry, I even took the time to re-watch the 2010 version. Re-watching the 1984 version will not be necessary, as I practically know it by heart.
First, I'll preface this whole deal by saying that I grew up on the original Karate Kid movie. I loved it and to this day it really means a lot to me. I consider it a quintessential part of 80's lore and a vital part of my childhood. So I'm naturally inclined to be defensive about it. However, I think my dislike of the remake stems from far more than simple loyalty.
