The Austin Film Festival will honor Caroline Thompson with its Distinguished Screenwriter Award at the 2011 installment of the festival.
Thompson, who has collaborated several times with filmmaker Tim Burton, wrote or co-wrote screenplays for “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Corpse Bride,” “The Addams Family” and “The Secret Garden.” She also wrote the screenplays for “Buddy” and “Black Beauty,” both of which she directed.
Thompson, who published her first novel, “First Born,” in 1983 is currently working on adaptations of Melissa Marr’s novel “Wicked Lovely” and Mikhail Bulgakov’s “The Master and Margarit.” She will accept the award at the annual Awards Luncheon held on Saturday, October 22 at the Austin Club and joins notable panelists Lawrence Kasdan (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”) and Shane Black (“Lethal Weapon”) as a speaker at this year’s festival.
